New trigger for a Remington 700 ADL??
[?]Hello again....and thanks to all of you sharing advice that would at least cost me a cup of coffee on a good day! I have a customer who says that he has put 3000+ rounds through his Remington 700ADL and was told that the gun (Barrel) was as good as worn out....but he likes it and just wants to lighten the trigger pull. He asked me if the Remington trigger would best be lightened to about 3lbs. or would an aftermarket trigger be best......I'm open for suggestions.....

GunHawke, What caliber is this ADL with 3000 rounds thru it? Probably is on it's last legs especially if the customer wasn't real well versed in barrel care! However, his money could be more well spent on a quality barrel than an aftermarket trigger! The Remington triggers can safely be adjusted to the 3# level with not needing to buy a Timney or Jewell!!! You need to know what you are doing but there are no less than 4 Remington 700's within 5 feet of me with trigger pulls set at 18oz to 24oz!!!! All factory triggers and all safe!!!! I won't get into the mechanics of it as I won't adjust your trigger due to the liabilities involved! But I will say that the Remington trigger is adjustable!!! GHD 0 -

Age has it's detriments.....I thought I said that the Remington was a 7mm Mag....both responses are great and I will pass them on to the Rem owner. But I do have to ask....I have heard a lot about bore wear, but I can't believe that 3000 rounds will toast a barrel!!?? Not a fair comparison, but what about my service revolver with 10,000+ rounds through it (those 600 yard shots did get a little tough!).

3000 rounds from a 7mmMagnum would be possible toast material if the bore was neglected and improperly cleaned! To compare a 7mmMag to a "service" revolver is like apples to oranges!! There is a great discrepancy in the barrel or "throat" erosion that could take place with the 7mm! If it was a .223 then I would think that the "worn out barrel" was not worn out! If he really likes the gun and barrel, get him to good gunsmith and have the smith back the barrel off a turn and rechamber it to 7mmMagnum! New throat acheived at a considerable less cost!!! ghd is correct regarding the rem. trigger. i have a 40xb trigger on my 6mm..well, i'll just call it the "fart trigger". as far as the barrel wear question, it needs looked at b4 that determination is made. if the barrel is burnt and the trigger needs work, i would suggest an aftermarket barrel and drop-in trigger. it will still be less than a new gun and the customer will retain the cosmetic feel of his original weapon. 0 -
That barrel was fried a long time ago,...like 1000rnds ago or more. I would suggest he place a want add for a take-off barrel for a 700,..and then spend a few bucks having it headspaced. He may be in the hole for $100,..but he will back in business with a new barrel,....and then have a smith do the $30 trigger job on the factory trigger. I have one breaking at the same as GHD's triggers,..and people can't beleive it is a factory rig.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

I've been perfectly happy with my 700's that I just put a $20 trigger job on them. If I were him, I'd take the money saved by not buying an aftermarket trigger and buy a better grade barrel.
Or, if it's a stainless action, sell it to the ol' bambihunter!

3000 RDS IS A LOT FOR A 7MM MAG. IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW ACURATLY THE RIFLE STILL SHOOTS AND WHAT HIS REQUIREMENTS ARE ( MINET OF MOOSE?). A GOOD 'SMITH SHOULD BE ABLE TO ADJUST THE TRIGGER FOR $20/$30 AS THE ABOVE POSTERS HAVE SUGGESTED. 0
