AK Waffle Mags
Howdy,
I have a stamped Romanian AK (7.62X39) and purchased 10 Bulgarian waffle mags (7.62X39) because everyone raved on how good they were. Once I got them in I found that they are too large for my receiver. Are the waffle mags for milled receivers only or is my receiver smaller than normal? I have several steel mags from SOG that fit but are somewhat tight.
Any AK experts that can set me straight?

Any opinions guys? Should I just stick with the mil-surplus european steel ones? 0 -
The waffle and the metal Ak47 mags should fit the same in both the milled receiver and the stamped receiver. Some of the AK varients only take single stack mags, so a double stack mag won't fit if thats what you have

Is your gun a Romanian SAR1 or a WASR10 high cap? If it is the WASR10, you'll find that drums, some steel mags, and apparently these waffle pattern mags may not fit. I have had encounters with the drums and some stamdard steel mags not fitting, but I had not yet encountered the waffle pattern mags. That is to say I just hadn't tried them, not that they had worked.
You'll find that the WASR10 high capacity rifles started out life as a single stack receiver. After they arrived in the US, the importer opened up the the mag well to accept high capacity magazines. Unfortunately when they have done this, they haven't quite gotten the dimensions exactly correct. Hence some mags will either fit tightly or some may not fit at all. I have had to do some fitting on some of the WASR series rifles. You'll find that they usually won't be as expensive as the SAR1 , but unfortunately they may not be as trouble free when it comes to magazines as the SAR1 series rifles will be.
If you have any other questions in this area let me know. LRARMSX@MCHSI.COM0 -
The AK is a WASR10 high cap. I guess you get what you pay for...[:(]
Thanks for the information [:)]0
