1895 Nagant revolver
I have a 1895 Nagant 7.62X38 revolver. The Russian ammo can be had but I have read that I can use .32H&R Mag. brass in the gun. I have also read that you can use .32-20 brass if you first run the brass through a .30 Cal M1 sizing die. I did this but the rims are to thick to allow cocking of the pistol.
Anybody have any luck with the .32H&R's. I have also read that .32 S&W longs can be used.
Any info would be appreciated.

I'm thinking about getting one of these on C&R. I know you can get a .32 ACP conversion cylinder from FAC and others. Does it work well? SOG has them and they also have the Sporter model which intrigues me even more. Does the conversion cylinder work for the Sporter too? How scarce/ expensive is 7.62 Nagant ammo? I know Foicchi makes it. Anybody else? I've also heard you can use .32 Long in it and it works 'flawlessly'. Is this true? All input appreciated.

gravedigger, go for it but forget the ACP cylinder or Nagant ammo if you are a handloader. Order a set of Lee Nagant dies, Starline 32-20 brass, some 32 cal pistol bullets and have a ball. 32 Longs will work but the brass swells like crazy due to the Nagant s larger dimensions making them all but impossible to reuse. 0 -
Apparently, from reports I have seen, sometimes these cylinder will drop in and work, and sometimes they won't. If the don't, adjustment is not for the novice, and if you get the replacement cylinder to work, the original cylinder may well be rendered of time. As for pressures, judging by the Fiocchi ammo I have fired, and assuming Fiocchi loads their stuff to near original pressures,the original Nagant ammo had some zip. More modern Soviet surplus I have fired was pretty anemic by comparison. Maybe Mark C. will weigh in with better info on the relative pressures. Fiocchi isn't cheap, but the cheaper Soviet surplus isn't as good. I haven't seen nearly as much of that around as I used to see, but I haven't been looking for it lately either.
And remember that when you shoot ammo that doesn't have the original case design, you lose the "gas-seal" effect.
While members here report no problems beyond bulged cases when shooting .32 Long, it is generally unwise to use ammunition for which the gun was not designed.

On GunBroker, "mp-5" sells the Fiocchi Nagant ammo; I haven't bought any from him yet, but this is the best price I've seen in a long time:

I have one of the earlier Century Arms imported Nagants that had the 32 auto cylinder packed with the gun--I assume it was fitted for the gun. Mine has always worked fine and I did lend the cylinder to someone else to try in his Nagant and it worked fine for him too.
Although it's cheaper to shoot with the 32 cylinder, I really like the original gas-seal round. It's just "neat" and the revolver stays amazingly clean when you use it.

Have you fired one of these? It has a trigger pull like the stick shift on a school bus. Double action feels like about 25 pounds and SA about 10.

I-girl, you can lighten the pill by clipping a coil or two off the cylinder spring. Gotta work slowly so you don't go to far but the pull can be made acceptable. 0 -
1. demand from the SASS, and cowboy action shooters has caused someone to come up with an alternate cylinder in .32-20. i have not handled one yet, but if they prove to be well made and functional, i will buy one.
2. we have about 50 boxes of FIOCCHI 7.62 NAGANT ammo in the shop in AMMO STORAGE CLOSET #3. if you cannot find it anywere else, let me know at waltsgun@aol.com

It is also my understanding that, in addition to .32 S&W long that .32 H&R mag will work. BTW what are the going prices for the Nagant these days? 0 -
SOG has them for $89.95 or $84.95 if you buy two or more.
