barrel date of M1 Garand
have been trying to date this barrel with no luck from any
of the web sites so far..
only numbers on barrel are... SA 6535448 7 63 y29
thought maybe that the 7 63 quite a space between these
might mean july 1963

You answered your own question Rick: Your barrel was produced in July of 1963. The first series of numbers which you see-- SA 6535448-- indicate that your barrel was produced by Springfield Armory and was built to the post war 6535448 revision (modification) number specifications. The Y 12 is a heat lot number which kept track of the steel used in the production of different lots of M1 barrels. If one Y 12 barrel came up as flawed then all Y 12 marked barrels could be inspected for the same possible production defect.
