I got $75 for a Ruger over/under! DAMN!
My Dad died last month and I am selling his guns for my Mom.....a neighbor has "helped" me sell a couple...he got me $75 for a ruger over/under...and by reading the auctions on this site I see I GOT RIPPED OFF! I know nothing about guns as you can tell.
But I do have 3 guns left and want to make my Mom some money. I need your help with finding me a good price on the following guns:
1. Remington model 7400 (30 06 SPRG)
2. Ruger Mini 30 (7.62X30)
3. Conecticut Valley Arms (2 triggers 50 cl black powder)
I live in the Spokane WA area.

My condolences over the loss of your father.
The 7400 is worth between $400-$500 depending upon condition.
The Mini 30 value will vary depending upon when it was made and if stainless or blued.
Not enough info to give a real value on the muzzleloader.
My suggestion would be to contact your insurance company and ask them who they use to appraise firearms for claim puroposes. That individual will probably be more honsest that others. If you can e-mail me (Mrs92fsc@aol.com) some pictures with as much detail as possible I will try to give you and honest valuation. Then you can place them on GB and watch us "gun nuts" in action.

[V] As you found out, unfortunately the hard way, the world is filled with [badguys] that will rip you off at the drop of a hat. I work part-time for a gun shop (in Maryland) that does a very large part of its' business in estate and consignment sales both in the shop and at local gun shows. While we are way too far off for you, look for a reputable dealer in your own area who will handle consignment sales. They charge a percentage of course, but the shop also does all paperwork and/or registrations on your behalf. You essentially sign the stuff over to them for a contractually agreed sale price and after that all you have to do is collect the check when they sell your gear. Good luck, and keep the faith in Him Above to get you and your family through your time of need. Peace........

[}:)] You ought to see an attorney and file a civil case or maybe some criminal charges if the laws in your area cover this type of thing. Judges usually take a very dim view of jerks that rip off or defraud grieving widows. Man, that is seriously disgusting !!!!!

I have never seen a Ruger over and under that was not worth at least $500, and most of them more than that. So your neighbor helped you out to the tune of at least munus $425. Giving him the benefit of the doubt that he was sincerely trying to help, he is still a jerk for getting involved in something he knew nothing about. Some men think that because they have testes they are supposed to be authorities on firearms. He may be one of those.
All that being said, bigbossman's suggestion of consignment is a good one. I sold many guns that way at an indoor range in Plano, Texas. It took a little time but I got good prices for them.
You might mention what part of the country you are located in so the members here can see if they can make suggestions.

A member asked me where I lived to possibly help me find help selling these guns.
Post Falls is located four miles east of the Washington-Idaho border along Interstate 90 in Kootenai County and is bounded by Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to the east, the State of Washington to the west, the Spokane River to the south and the Rathdrum prairie to the north. Post Falls is 20 miles east of Spokane, Washington and approximately 100 miles south of the Canadian border.

Not trying to be critical, but the Mini-30 is 7.62 x 39 (just in case you were to advertise it).
I've had a lot of CVA's so if you can post info like whether it is percussion or flintlock, give us the length of the barrel, how many pins are in it (that hold the barrel to the stock), etc. would help us to identify what you've got.
Pictures would even be better if you can. We here all like a good deal, but not by screwing someone who doesn't know better. I sure would follow up with him about that gun, show him the prices of what they go for and let him know that you think he swindled you... [:(!]

Question for Spring Creek, what has a 4473 got to do with individual sales. This is a federal form only used by licensed FFL's transfering firearms, not neighbors selling guns for someone. I know of no means by which an individual can get a check run through NCIC, this is reserved for FFL's only! 0 -

Loss of a parent is pretty tough. I'm sorry. Both of mine have departed this life in the last three years, so I know what you're going through.
The guns... I don't know the situation with your neighbor, but I do know from experience that sometimes all is not as it seems. What I'm saying is that from my own experience I've found that there were certain things I didn't want to deal with. I needed to get a job done and money wasn't the most important thing on my agenda. There were things thrown out that were worth something, but I have few regrets.
If the neighbor was doing no more than moving some items for you... If the neighbor had no hand in profit... And if you encouraged (or allowed) the transactions... I see no reason for sour grapes.
On the other hand, if the neighbor was driven by profit or greed... Then there's a big problem. Words like theft and scam come to mind. And the legal sale of one's own firearms isn't a problem, but the sale (for profit) of another's guns would tend to make one a dealer. Words like ATF and FFL come to mind.
Only you know the circumstances. Only you know whether there might be a cause of action. And only you can decide whether it was stupidity, greed, or circumstance that led to this problem.

Do a search on GunBroker for the same guns and compare prices. Sell the guns on GunBroker yourself. Have the winning bidder send you a signed FFL copy from his dealer, then ship the firearms directly to that dealer. You can send the guns yourself, since they are not handguns. You can always use a reserve price so you don't lose money. 0 -

At 0300 this morning, I could'nt put into words what I was thinking...I had to delete a members whole diatribe because of the Risk of Culpability to This Forum..One can't accuse a Person wither named or un-named of being a Thief or a Scoundrel along with a few other unsavory Remarks without Proof! And on a Web Site like this!
