How to dispose of gun Parts
[black][/bl Will put this out there and see what some varied opions are . I closed my gun shop about eight years ago and still have a small amount of spare new and used parts for all type of guns . Would you advise me to sell in bulk to someone like gun parts corp. or try to sell them one at a time. Or is another idea out there for disposing of these gun parts.[?]

The easy way would be to sell the lot to a place like gun parts...you could probably make one big deal and be done with it. Unfortunately, you may be surprised at the amount $$ you will get for your parts since gun parts has to make a profit reselling for X $$ so they may not meet your $$ expectations...only a guess on my part.
The best bet for members of this forum and other forums would be for you to sell your parts through these forums, (1911.com, ar-15.com, etc.) or gunbroker or ebay or whatever. I think you will probably get more $$ for your most of your parts and in turn possibly save those of us on this end a few $$. However, that would require a lot of work on your part listing, answering questions, dealing with payments, mailing, etc.
Another option is to get a table at a few of your local gun shows and wheel/deal with the folks who attend these. I know at least one person in your same position who chose that route and he sold the good stuff quickly (10/22, mags, SKS/AR parts, etc.) and is still trying to get rid of the odd stuff...mostly scope bases and rings, reloading stuff, etc.
If your parts are reasonably priced, you will sell them...

Some hassle, more money =gunshow setup (THIS WOULD BE THE MOST FUN!)
Medium hassle, big money =internet each item or firearm grouping

Gun parts will give you about .10 on the dollar. My suggestion, separate them, by manufacture, rifle , shotgun, and model. My self I buy pre 64 Winchester shotgun parts. I've found that sellers who lump a bunch of shotgun parts together get lower prices. If you sort by manufacturer and md you will get you top dollar. Then put them up for auction here at GB. Everything that doesn't sell send those to the Gun Parts corp. Do you have any pre 64 Winchester parts? Regards Dave 0 -
All gave you some good advice. Let me add this by telling you what a gentleman told me about some parts he wanted to sell. He sold some at the Gun Shows but some of the parts were odd stuff and unusual parts. He listed them here on GB and got more than what he was asking for them at the shows. He said that some items brought 2 times what he figured high dollar was on them. If you sell them in lots or as a whole you will not get as much but it will be quicker and less hassle on the other hand if you have the time sell them on an auction site such as GB and reap more profit. It all depends on you and your time. I know I am always looking for different parts as is most gun owners. Good luck in which ever way you go in it. 0 -

The best I ever got out of Gun Parts Corp was more like .02 cents on the dollar, and often less than that. The last time I tried to sell them some stuff, I went through their list and added up all the prices for all the parts, just to give me an idea of what they were worth and see it was worth my time. The total was something like $3,200. Their offer was $35.00. Needless to say, they didn't get my parts. Best of luck. 0 -

I realize that your request was for ideas on how best to sell your parts. I'd like to propose another thought, donate your parts to one or more of the Gunsmithing schools. If you don't necessarily need the cash, you can make a donation and get a letter of donation from one of the schools and then let your accountant arrange the dollar figure for your taxes. You taxable position can be improved by the deductable amount rather than the cash amount in certain circumstances.
Just another thought. Let me know if you want to look into it and I can put you in touch with a couple of the schools. Any one of them should be very appreciative.
