Side by Side Shotgun Identification

I am trying to identify, and find the $$ value of an old European side by side shotgun. All the owner could tell me was that he thought it was an old European military shotgun and of 16 ga. The gun appears to have steel barrels with only one area of minor pitting on the outside. Here is what is stamped on the gun. Some of these stampings may not be correct, as they were hard to read. On the top of the 'barrel break'lever is "HELICE TRIBLOC" Other stampings include: ACIER COMPRUIF STETIENNE 17.0 ACIER SPECIAL RESSUE

  I have a reference for "Philippon" as being a gunmaker in Saint-Etienne, France. As late as the 1950's. BUT "Acier Comprime" is a French term for "compressed steel" dating from the late 19th Century.

  you may want to try looking up the proof markings located in the back of the bluebook of gun values.

  Not military. French. Steel tubes. The rest will be determined by condition and quality.
  
  As a reference these guns can be compared to their Belgian counterparts, though few are of such low quality. What I'm saying is that a plain field gun won't bring much more than a Belgian model. On the other hand, a nicely crafted French gun will.
  
  If your gun sports nice wood and has some nice engraving, it will probably attract some interest. The problem is that French guns don't enjoy a great following here in the US. Only the best guns will bring really high prices.
