Can someone tell me if you change the magnification on a variable scope if it changes the point of impact???

  The change of impact can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and even between same model scopes (though slight). You would have to do some very deliberate and accurate shooting off of a bench to determine how much (if any) change in point of impact your particular scope demonstrates.
  
  With high-end scopes the change is very slight! Most shooters' marksmanship (or quality of ammo) is not consistent enough to definitely attribute any change in impact to a the scope itself.

  Very good answer by Easygo6. The change of P.O.I. is slight, if any, in good quality scopes; but it is nevertheless good practice when boresighting a scope and using the distance method, where a distant object is centered in the bore and the scope crosshairs then adjusted to the same location, to do so on the highest power offered by the scope. This will further reduce any error, as the error, if present, almost always increases with the magnification.

  By the way I learned something from your post! So it is recommended that bore sighting be done at the higher setting? I was never sure and used a middle setting...but your post makes sense.. to me anyway. I use the higher power ranges at the greater distances - therefore at the shorter distances the magnitude of error will be decreased.
