I have always wanted to try a lyman great plains rifle {flintlock}, having used a thompson center for years. Any reason why I should'nt buy one? I know the twist favors round ball use but that's not a problem. thanks for any advice, grizz.

Don't know why not, just would wonder why?The Thompson is one of the best out there IMHO....and round ball shootin IS great isn't it? Just my 2 cents......L.H.

They are decent. If you want a Hawken look a like, one was made in Italy by Uberti several years ago and marketed under at least a couple of names, Santa Fe Hawken was one. A nice used one can be found for under $200.

My heros have always killed cowboys.

Thanks for the input, I guess I should have been more specific. Is the lyman great plains more accurate than the thompson 50 cal? I like the looks of it, so I guess if it's a good shooter I'll probably have to fill my need. Thanks again. kypdaynttw. grizz.
