Original Poly Tech AK 47 Magazines??
Are the original Poly Tech magazines for the AK 47 any better than the aftermarket types? Will these magazines function better? How would I be able to distinguish the difference between a factory Poly Tech magazine and and aftermarket magazine????

The factory Poly Tech mags had the three witness holes in the back and came with a blued follower or the more desireable chromed follower. Most any AK mags will work in your AK, but some feel the Poly Tech ones were made just a little nicer. I would agree that they were more finished and the chrome follower couldn't hurt, but I guess I never had any problems with the standard mags either. I have both the standard Chinese and Poly Tech mags available (as well as Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Etc.), but given the price of the Poly Tech ones, most will go with one of the various European ones or the standard Chinese for less money.

The Poly Tech magazines that you have......Do they come with the chrome followers? Do they have the Poly Tech name stamped on the floorplate? What are you asking for yours? Are they at auction? Could you send me a picture, showing the holes that you mentioned? 0 -
lrarmsx is the expert on these matters, and his prices are reasonable.
My personal experience when Pre-Ban AK-47-type rifles and magazines were readily available was that the Norinco magazines were rougher finished and had a lot of sharp edges and burrs compared to the PolyTech magazines, which were very nicely finished and had no burrs or sharp edges. I always smoothed up the Norinco magazines that came with Norinco rifles, but the magazines probably would have worked anyway. Removing the sharp edges and burrs saved some blood because they were sometimes sharp enough to really cut.
Since that time, the European surplus magazines I have seen and bought seem to be very nice, although they may have surface wear that does not affect the function. Considering how inexpensive they are, they seem like a real bargain to me. I have no experience with the later Chinese magazines lrarmsx mentions. I remain amazed at how well-made and anvil-like the better AK-47-type magazines are. Those who say they are the best magazines ever designed and made will get no argument from me.
If one has a PolyTech rifle, one may, like me, want to have matching-brand magazines, but the function will be the same with any brand if of reasonable quality.0 -
That is exactly it!! I do have a Poly Tech MAK- 90 and I would like a set of matching magazines. I came across a fellow who was selling them new for for $75 apiece. I offered him $100 for two and I'm waiting for a response. These magazines had the Poly Tech name on the floorplate and chrome followers. I really don't know too much about these magazines and I wanted to make sure that they were authentic. It sounds like they are. Thanks for your help guys!!!! 0 -
Just so everyone is clear, I'm NOT the guy wanting $75 a piece. Mine are less than half that. Maybe I'm too low....just kidding. 0
