Zouave Black Powder Shooting Question

Is there anything I can purchase that will protect the wood surrounding the nipple from being burned when the cap explodes?
I checked out Dixie's catalog index but I don't know what this protector is called - if there is such a thing.
Any advice will be appreciated

  Hi John,
  Not sure where to buy them, but you can make one easy if you have some leather. Take a small piece of soft leather, punch a hole in the center, just big enuff for the cone to show thru. Punch 3 more holes on each side and run some leather lace thru. Tie it off in the back, thru the trigger guard and you have it. If you can't find one let me know, I have a Zouvae Rifle, I could make you one and send it out to you. Oden.

  When the cap explodes it does burn the area of the stock just behind the nipple. However, after shooting over 2000 rounds from this piece the damage is degligible.

  whoops! sorry. What I mean is that I have a zouave which I have fired 2000 times + a bunch of cap snapping and the damage is not all that bad, for me at least, to be too concerned.

  I was able to find someone who owns a Zouave and has made leather flash protectors for it. I bought two of them from him and they will definitely keep the wood from getting burned when the cap explodes.
