Savage99 age\value
Just left the pawn shop, they have a
Savage 99,w/counter,last pat.1909,
serial# 281xxx.Asking $280.I'd say
85% after a good clean-up.(honest use)
Oh,it's a 30-30.Is it a deal?
Been wanting one,but not bad enough
to give too much. All help is appreciated,
I don't want to let it get away if this is reasonable.

Sounds like a fair price to me. Not many around in that condition to choose from. Don't know the date of mfg., but I don't think they offered it in 30-30 after WW2. The one you're looking at does have the crescent butt and tang saftey right?Bob

The book indicates your rifle with a 281xxx ser # was manufactured in 1925.
Keep off the Ridgeline0 -
Well,
Rather than take a chance on loosin' out,
I went ahead and put it on layaway.$245+tax.
Hell,it's gotta be worth that.(with a Weaver)

Its obvious the condition is the key to any of the old vintage 99's.
Check to see if there are any cracks in the stock around the receiver . Also has this been drilled and tapped for a scope or full of holes drilled in it for a scope. If it is drilled full of holes then $250 is about whats its worth. Also is it a take down and does it have the original butt plate .0 -
MFI,
Original,all the way.Needs a good clean'n up.
Light(very light)surface rust here and there.
Does have Weaver 4x32,properly mounted.
Wondering though, has dove tail for rear sight,
but nothing for front(smooth). No cracks that I can see.

Bobby- if it has the rear sight and the bbl has Savage markings, then it had to have been cut.Probably when the scope was installed.Bob

Probably manufactured 1925-26 but Savage records are a mess.
Barrel has either been cut or had the front sight milled off. Has been
D&T but not by factory. Should make a good huntin iron but just not
collectible. Shoot a Six point- western count and report back. Come
on BOBBY: ask more questions-very refreshing. Good luck. 1010 -
I don't find anything in my references showing
a barrel longer than 24"being offered. If that is
the case, then someone did one hell of a nice job
removing the front sight.Absolutely no evidence
of ever having one.I thought maybe it's a replacement
barrel, but all the patents are there so that is out.
Oh well, doesn't matter now.Hopefully,I can get it paid
off before huntin' season is over.[:p][:p][:p]
Should make a good hog gun.
Also, safety is down by the trigger, straight butt w/original
metal plate.
Take down? Not being familiar w/these,how do I tell?
The fore grip[schnabel(spelling)]is attached w/one screw.
The muzzel is recessed about 1/8".
