remington rand 1911

Where can I get a slide stop/release(whatever you want to call it) for a remington rand, 1911, .45? The pistol is entirely original and I want an original piece to replace the broken one. Thanks.

  I inherited a 1911 that the serial # dates to 1919. It has a remington rand slide on it. Question is : Are all the slides interchangeable and is there any benefit to swapping for the correct one? There is nothing special about the gun. Just curious...........

  I would go to a militaria or gunshow. Much superior to ordering one. YOU must know what you are looking at though.

  In all likelyhood, you're R/R 1911 was reworked on at least one occassion by the the military arsenal. Most of the 1911 pistols of this vintage were. As is the nature of military small arms, they tend to get much greater use than they would recieve in the hands of an single person. The R/R was a contract production pistol, and as such, parts were interchanged among makers. I saw Rands still in use in the 1960's. None of them were conpletely original. The old 1911's tend to be a mixed bag of parts. I bought a lot of 50 from the National Guard Armory in K.C. some years back, while they all had seen much serve and were,by some standards,loose, they all functioned perfectly. They were mostly Colts,a couple of R/R's,1 Savage, no rarities though. But none of them was all original, aside from the fact, they were all military service pistols. My piont is that the slide stop/release lever from any 1911 will fit you're Remington Rand, they were made to the same standard regardless of maker.

  Marinerah, The best place would be a gun show. Now if you want to do your self a real favor. Charles Clawson is reprinting one of his books on service models 1911 and 1911A1. Buy this book. This book will show you exactly what is correct for your gun or another 1911 or 1911A1 service pistol.

  The Remington Rand 1911 A1 was the best WW11 side arm manufactured.
  You apparently know that your arm is original except for one part.
  I do not understand how the part was broken but you obviously have one of Charles Clawsons's books. I sold my book for $800.00 just prior
  to learning that there was going to be a re-publication. Therefore-I do not know the original configuration of the RR part. Only a suggestion besides Neal's, www.simpsonltd.com
  For a replacement for function-any should work. I wish not to have words again w/ Python again. 101
