Any info on a Butler derringer in 22 short, swing out barrel, single shot? Thanks.

  Can anyone tell me about a Butler Derringer 22 it is gold plated(??) with pearl handles(??) Very nice shape in a wooden display box.
  Can anyone share any info on this one.

  Butler is the company that made ALL the Colt Derringers that were made beginning in 1958 through 1963, and then later on in the 70's. Colt actually didn't make the ones marked "Colt" and cased in consecutive pairs, made into books, or even cased as a "single." The guns are the same with the exception of the name, "Butler" on top and the "cosmetics" of the Butler guns. You never see a Butler Derringer that looks like the C0LT version.......must have been an agreement that prevented this. Butlers come in nickel, blue, matte black, Gold, and even some two toned versions with various different grips, but none exactly like the Colts. Average value of a cased single Butler in 100% condition would be in the
  $175 range with the gun itself in the $100-$125 range. Hope this helps!

  Do not handle your gun, even with gloves or a clean cloth; the gold plating is no more than 1-2 microns thick, & will easily wipe off.
  
  Are you sure that yours is .22 short? Butler also made a black powder version, as well as a "non gun" that was missing the breech plate.

  I sold several dozen Butler and Baroness derringers in the 70's. Ended up taking them all back because they misfired so bad. At the time dealer cost was less than $20.00 each. Caliber was 22 short.
