high power with Bo-mar base
I found a Belgian Browning High Power in a shop yesterday with a Bo-Mar scope base mounted on it. You could still use the iron sights, and the base had 3 or 4 set screws in it. How common was a scope on a high power? Does this detract from the value of the gun? By the way, it was priced at $395. Thanks.

I never really thought of the High Power as a target gun--it was and is a tactical gun for most shooters. However, it's as close to a 1911 style in a hi-cap 9mm as you are likely to find and some people just like 9mm. If the rest of the gun shows target style enhancements, it might be considered desirable.

I have a High-Power with the full-length Bomar Rib and Target Adjustable sights.
It certainly adds to the "heft" of the pistol.
I'm curious if you're not looking at the Rib, for more than it is/
Number 1, just the rib (with-out any optical device) makes the slide "SO VERY HEAVY", that it will only cycle with extra "warm" loads.
I use this High-Power with an extended threaded barrel and a Gem-Tech "Vortex" model Suppressor.
WITH-The LID "LINEAR INERTIA DECELERATOR" on the suppressor, the slide and pistol functions flawlessly.
What I'm saying, any Optical device on a High-Power that is not
"Frame" mounted, is going to give you nothing but problems.
This being said, If the pistol is in any kind of decent condition and
the barrel is okay, the price is "Dirt-Cheap" and I'd give it in a heart beat.
As though I "need" any more High-Powers.

This gun is in good shape, good barrel, good bluing,etc. The rear sight is still usable. Your description of the rib and target adjustable sights sounds like what it is. Is it removable? How is it mounted to the frame? If I bought it would I have to run "warm" loads through it only, and how "warm"?

Here again, I think what you mean-and correct me if I'm wrong,
the "rib" is mounted to the "slide"-the portion of the gun than
encompasses the barrel, correct?
And not the frame.
Most have had the slide drilled and tapped, so as to accomodate screws to hold the rib.
SO-if you didn't want the rib, you could remove it and replace screws with the short "plug" screw as are in most scope mounting holes prior to mounting bases.
As to "warm" loads, that is a very "relative" term.
And would actually vary according to weight of rib and experimenting would be in order.
It may be very likely that you could get a slightly lighter "recoil" spring and this would suffice in cycling the action, with no problem.
A little "trial and error" might be in order.
Why not talk to the shop owner and express your concerns and questions.
Surely he would like to know how it functions (if he doesn't already),
because I'd think he'd want the buyer-whether you or someone else to be satisfied.0
