re-load factory ammo?
i know it is possible, but is it feasable to pull the bullet of a factory round, say a speer gold dot, and re-charge it to get a faster round? or is the factory self defense ammo pretty hot already.

i dont think the cost to gain is logical. you can make better bullets from scratch cheaper. yet, ive known rifle shooters so desperate to build the perfect bullet, to pull 168gr bthp's from milspec ammo. personally, i feel you do microscopic(sp?) damage to the bullet when you pull it, so its not wise. im sure others would contest that and rightfully so, but i dont like putting loaded rounds in my bullet puller if i dont have to!

You didn't mention what caliber you are using. You can buy Speer Gold Dot bullets and make your own ammo for less dough than messing with a factory round. I really don't see why you would want something hotter than some of the +Ps that are already out there. FWIW, if you were loading some potent rounds you might want to make them using Alliant Power Pistol--it's made for that sort of use.

ohhh you airfarce guys are all the same! you buy a pie, take the guts out and put a different filling in! gessh! why didnt you just buy another pie! ok...i had my fun....but serious, just shoot up those factory rounds, save the brass, and buy some hot custom reload componants and load them up! we'll be here to walk you thru!

A max charge of Hodgdon longshot on a 135 grain nosler Hollow point will do in excess of 1500 fps out of my 5" para-ordnance in .40 S&W. If something needs more killing than that I want no part of it.

The only reason I could see for doing that would be self defense.
My instructor taught that you must always use factory loads for self defense, because no matter how you load it, the crooks attorney will claim you load your own because you are a sadistic racist who was planning to kill anyone who got in your way.
I suppose that if you wanted to make a special load to carry and still not have the liablity of handloads, you might be able to adjust a factory load to your own specs.
With the quality of some of the factory stuff that exists, I wouldn't bother. Its worth the cost to have a very powerful but fast stopping load for self protection.
Additionally, your first respondant was right about the damage to the bullet. I have pulled a few loads, and I wouldn't care to put complete trust in reused components. My opinion, for what its worth.

Just buy the gold dot bullets and LOAD YOUR OWN, forget that pulling bullets jazz. 0 -
Just getcha some MagSafe 40's fer defense, or load yer own with 7.6gr of Bullseye behind a 135gr jacketed bullet fer around 1360fps at close to 33,600psi. Remember not to seat too short, use only in fully-supported chamber, and fer gosh sakes; never shoot this in a Glock!
