Re: 270 scope sighting
Recently purchased a 270 abolt stainless stalker and put a leupold VX II 3x9x40 on it. Need some info. on sighting the scope. If the MPBR of a 130gr bullet is +/- 305yd. What is the best way to sight at 100yds. 2in. high at 100yds or what? Thanks in advance for the information.

Need more info. Bullet used, muzzle velocity. 0 -
It depends on your load. I shoot a 130 gr nosler balistic tip with 58 gr. IMR 4831. Zero at 200 yds. is 1.3" high at 100 and drops 5.94" at 300 yds.

I do not reload, just buy factory bullets (130gr. 3050vel.) How high , on average, should I sight it in at 100yd?. 0 -
As a rule of thumb, I sight most everything 2.5 inches high at 100 yards. Depending upon caliber, that will give me a point blank range of 175 to 250 yards. I hunt though and am not a bench shooter.

Setting your scope 1.5" high at 100 yards should get you sighted in at 200 yards with a drop of 6.5" to 7" at 300. This is off of the remington site with a 3060 fps in a 130 grain bullet (tried 3 different bullets, almost identical results). Good luck.

Pems,
Based on the bullet weight of 130 grains and a hypothetical style when combined for a velocity of 3050 fps. should yield a 100 yard sight in of 3.6 inches high with the centerline your scope set at approximately 1.5" high above the centerline of bore.

Pems,do it like hedog says. I sight a 30-06 with a 165 grain PSP bullet and a case full of 4350 2.5 to 3 inches high at 100 yds. It comes back on the line of sight at about 275 and you don't have to worry about trajectory until you go past 300 yds. Your .270 would likely do better than that. This method is referred to as "maximum point blank range" and was written up in the Rifleman not too long ago. However, the guy I got this from was Warren Page who , until he died was the shooting editor for Field and Stream magazine. For me, his word was gospel. Read his book "The Accurate Rifle" someday!!
Happy Hunting,
