desirablility of Japanese 38th Year Carbine
Dealer I know says he has a Japanese 38 carbine that looks pretty nice and that I might be interested in. Knew nothing about these until I started to do some research. Are these desireable? If so, what things should I look for? Thanks.

It's not what you know that gets you in trouble, it's what you know that just ain't so!

Dear Green...
Aside from the usual (finish, condition, bore, etc) look for matching numbers on main parts, and an intact "chrysanthamum" on the receiver. Real nice shape (NRA EXC)) worth $250-$300. Deduct $75 for mismatch, $75 for no "MUM".

Thanks for the input king999. Found this site doing a google search. Pretty good info on various markings. Printed off a copy and plan to take it with me when I go to the gunshop tomorrow.
