How can you tell genuine ivory besides looking at the grain?

How can you tell if Colt SAA ivory grips are factory? Do all factory ivory grips have medallions?

    thanks

If you don't want to spend a fortune, say a cost equal to or higher than the pistol itself, then I'd forget all about ivory since an S&W N-Frame needs a lot of ivory for coverage and this will cost you dollars! If you are willing to spend the money I'd start with a call to Roy's Custom Grips in Lynchburg, VA @804-993-3470. Roy's ivory stocks are top quality and are sourced from bonded elephant ivory so that means that they are fully legal, but also pricey. Your ivory stocks will have to be fitted to your S&W...just as any other quality set of stocks would need to be. You might try searching the auction listings for ivory grips in order to cut your costs.

There are also imitation ivory grips that have the appearance without the heafty price. Perhaps those would serve your needs?

This is timely as I'm looking for monogram grips in "faux ivory" for a Walther PPK, with a look like those used by Gen. George Patton-flashy for a daily wear CCW? -Maybe yes, but these are for a gift, and as Patton said: "Life is too short to live with a Ugly Gun"[:D].

Please contact or respond this post where I should be looking. Thank you-- Joe

Hello Try NUTMEG sports I don't have their web address at work but I have bought both somewhere in the area of 10 pair of grips fitted and unfitted for Colt single action. Legal Ivory grips. I would expect about $400.00 unfitted

Google Gun grips, there are tons of outfits out there. I like Buffalo Brothers grips, for more variety and "aging" choices, though they do require some fitting. Hogue also makes some nice ones that are prefit to your revolver.

Remember he also said, only a pimp or a Mississippi gambler would carry a gun with pearl handles.[:p]

Try Boone Trading Co. I'm sure they have a web site. They have a number of ivory grips at reasonable prices.
