reloading pressures

One of my favorite plinking loads for my Super Blackhawk is 7.0 grs of Unique pushing a 240 gr SWC. It's a nice load that you can shoot all-day. My question is - if the same load & bullet is used in 44 special brass will there be a significant pressure increase? I know that the reloading manual doesn't recommend a load this high for 44 special because of all of the old 44 special revolvers out there but I was just curious to see if there is a big difference using the magnum load in the special brass. I imagine the same holds true for the 357 magnum/38 special loads.

  If you keep the overall length the same, the pressures "should" stay in line. I load 10mm loads in .40 cases for my 610 smith, but loaded to 10mm lengths. In this case my velocity drops off about 20 fps going to the .40 s&w cases. I would think due to the thinner web at the case base lowering pressure. I have tried it with 38 and 357. Using the same load, MFG of brass, and OAL the velocity difference was negligable +/- 10 fps.
  
  The big danger in doing this is that the ammo may end up in the wrong guns. I certainly wouldn't want to shoot my 10mm-40 loads in a glock. Do you want your heirs to inherit ammo that they don't know what it is and potentially hurt themselves?

  I am sure the pressure will be higher in the 44 Special case, but I would not be concerned. I have loaded 7.5 gr of unique in 44 Special cases and shot them in my Super Blackhawk for years without problems. I have always used 8.5 gr unique with a 255 swc in a 44 magnum case as my prefered load for all around use. You will generally get a little better accuracy using the 44 mag case as the farther forward the bullet is the better. Also, 44 mag cases will last almost forever with these light loads.

  I have seen some of the bizarre stuff that local wildcatters have created using 200gr bullets in 38sp cases which have been shot at matches in T/C's, and think that some folks have waaay too much time on their hands(while they still have hands).

  7 grains of Unique in a .44 Special case would give you considerably higher pressure than in a magnum case due to the lower volume capacity of the .44 Spl. brass.
