Glock 40, 1911 recoil?

I have, and shoot, both. In my opinion the Glock 22 .40 S&W has less recoil than a 1911 .45 ACP. Although the Glock is lighter (especially when compared to an all-steel 1911) I believe that the .40 round offers less recoil to begin with, and Glock's synthetic frame and grip shape lessen the felt recoil effect.

Comparing recoil of the two in .45...My G36 has slightly more recoil than the Kimber TLE. The Glock has a slightly shorter barrel and grip and it's lighter. But the difference in recoil is miniscule.

To me the recoil is about equal but felt differently. 45 more of a push or 'thud', 40 more of a slap or sharper. This from a G-23 and a Commander size 1911.

Having had a G23 and now a G30 as well as a 1911, I'll confirm that a 40 S&W has more felt recoil than the latter. You have a smaller caliber round running at a decidedly higher velocity than a 45ACP resulting in more of a "punch" like sensation. The lightness of polymer doesn't work so well for the 40 as it does for 45 in the G30. I shot both side by side. The difference was enough for me to part with the G23 even though the recoil wasn't a problem (I shoot 44 mag and like it).

I have a G22 and it has less recoil than my 1911's don't know why but you can tell the difference.
P.S. I am not a Glock fan, I gave that gun away but it did have less "felt" recoil to me.

Neither of them have any appreciable recoil. Now if you get into the 357 Sig's and 10mm's that have really high velocity you get a noticably sharp recoil, not abusive, but quick and sharp. The 40 and 45 are high weight/low velocity rounds which tend to have more of a push due to slower projectile speeds and longer a longer recoil pulse. Don't sweat it[:D]
