Frangible Ammunition?
Are these rounds capable of doing a better job than traditional lead core bullets?

Of course they are! They are specially designed to do exactly what they do much better than traditional lead core bullets. In fact, given the choice between (as determined by the mission) lead core bullets and frangible bullets, there is no comparison! Lead core bullets are completely UNSUITABLE for the job that frangible bullets perform.

do a better job at what? are we talking bullets that disentigrate on impact? like the old 30-06 training rounds used in ground to air training? 0 -
I have responded to several GSW incidents where a handgun bullet penetrated numerous layers of drywall. Other incidents involved ricochets off of streets & sidewalks. Both types of "stray shots" are greatly decreased or eliminated by frangible ammo.
Few of us can be certain that we will be calm enough to keep all of our shots IN the target when we become involved in a Close Encounter of The Worst Kind.

Here are a couple of articles that talk about the effectiveness/ineffectiveness of frangible ammo.

Bob,
That's the frangible rounds I'm talking about. The ones used to shoot at towed aircraft targets, but it can be applied to any frangible round. A lead core will not desintergrate upon impact, hence unsuitability.
