    I think there is some confusion between the model 1894 and the model 1900. The 1900 was an economy version of the 1894 without any high grades available. The Remington Special was a 1894. When introduced the 1900 was $35 and the basic 1894 was $45. The obvious difference between the two is the forearm latch mechanism. The 1894 uses the push button Purdey system while the 1900 uses a snap system with no exposed hardware. The 1900 is in no way an improved version of the 1894. Part of the confustion is that the same 1894 patent date is on both models.
