Remington 7400 Reliability and Accuracy
What can/should one expect accuracy and reliability wise from a Remington 7400 of recent manufacture? I recently bought a .280 Carbine NIB and haven't shot it yet.

I can only speak on reliability as I've had so many in for repair, I've never had time to take one afield.
As long as you keep it absolutly CLEAN AND LUBRICATED, you may not have any problems.
For some reason, the Remington automatic chambers are EXTREMELY prone to rust and this in turn locks a case in at firing. This causes either the extractor to break or the cartridge rim to be pulled off. Why Remington doesn't just chrome line the chambers (Lightbulb, Remington?) and fix this major problem I will never know (Remington, if you start lining the chambers, send me a Wingmaster for the great idea!). Clean your weapon after the last shot of the day and at least once a month otherwise. Good luck!

REMINGTONS 7400'S WILL USUALLY DELIVERE SUFFICIENT ACCURRANCY FOR MOST LARGE GAME HUNTING, GIVEN THAT YOUR SHOTS ARE TAKEN FROM A REASONABLE DISTANCE. YOUR GROUPS MAY VARY DEPENDING ON YOUR CHOICE OF AMMO. TRY THE AMMO OF YOUR CHOICE IF YOUR NOT HAPPY TRY ANOTHER BULLET TYPE OR WEIGHT YOU MAY SEE SOME IMPROVEMENT BY DOING SO.
IN YOUR BOX YOU WILL FIND A CHAMBER CLEANING BRUSH USE THIS FOR IT'S NESSACARY FOR RELIABLE FEEDING AND EXTRACTION.IF YOUR HUNTING AN EXTREMELY COLD CLIMATE [ FREEZING RAIN, SNOW ]TAKE A BOLT ACT. IF POSSIBLE. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW REMINGTON AND I HOPE TO HAVE BEEN OF SOME HELP.

Thank for the reponses so far, I has realistic expectations, I think the trigger is going to hinder shooting some. I handload and have new cases. This will be mostly for drive hunts, and close cover for deer, not a primary rifle. 0 -
i have not heard alot of good reports on this rifle. mainly in the reliability area. i would not want to rely on the weapon for defensive purposes in the woods. for your application, i would trade it for a nice lever action. levers are excellent brush guns, have the knockdown power, and are reliable. 0 -
My 2 cents:
accuracy= .75" with handloads
killing power in 30/06= 1 kick (deer only kick once after falling over dead)
reliablity=100% for me
overall ratings= no deer ever criticized my gun's performance
enjoy your new rifle!
....I never met a gun I didn't like!0
