Thoughts on a Glock 17
A friend of mine wants to sell his Glock 17, laser sights, holster and case for $300. Pretty good deal! I'm going to take him up on his offer irrespective of the replies, but I am a rifle / shotgun guy and know very little about Glocks.
Can you all throw your two cents in on the quality, accuracy, is it a good CCW? / defensive pistol, give me all the good, the bad and the ugly on the Glock 17. A little history would be nice too.
I know I am opening a can of worms here, but an honest, frank discussion would be most helpful! Thanks!

I HAVE HAD MY GLOCK 17 FOR ABOUT 15 YEARS NOW AND ALTHOUGH THE TRIGGER TAKES SOME GETTING USED TO, IT HAS NEVER LET ME DOWN,NEVER JAMMED, NEVER BROKE ANYTHING (AFTER 2500-3000 RDS). UNLESS YOU ARE A BIG PERSON, I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IT FOR CCW ( I USE A GLOCK 26 AND A SPRINGFIELD V-10, AND SOMETIMES A WALTHER TPH). FOR HOME PROTECTION I USE THE 17 WITH A HI-CAP WITH A PLUS 2 BOTTOM LOADED WITH 20 RDS OF 147 GRAIN BLACK TALONS. GET USED TO THE FUNKY TRIGGER AND YOU WILL NEVER REGRET OWNING THE 17.

Good guns, I have 1000's of rounds through my Glock 21 .45acp, with out a failure to feed or extract. I like it because it's a full size gun yet weighs less than my 1911. Also it's nice from a competition / defensive angle with no external safeties to slow you down. All that's required is to draw & fire. You just have to remember that like any other firearm, finger off trigger till ready to shoot. Breaking the gun down is a pc of cake.
$300 is a good deal, I'd hop on it. Most lasers, cost at least that much.
Edit: Concerning CCW, get the right holster, & you can conceal anything!

AT $300 IS A BUY!
Had mine for about 2yrs, I'm old and decripped and could throw rocks better than I could shot it.
It never failed!, best I could do at 25yrds was about a 18" group.

Hossier.... Thats a very good deal. I have 9 Glocks, 4 of them model 17's. I use them for competition, and LE work. Iam shooting one in the World Speed Shooting Championship later this week.
They are not pretty, but they are accurate, reliable, and just about impossible to break.
Like any other gun, with proper care and cleaning it will last you years. While shooting the SOF 3-gun a few years back I met a couple guys from Glock who had test guns with them. One of the guns, a 17, had 200,000+ rnds through it and was still going strong.0 -
That sounds like a good deal. I have a 19 and a 36 and I carry the 36. They're an all around nice handgun and very easy to clean. I don't think there's anything wrong with carrying a 9mm, I'm just your typical American...bigger is better. The 19 was not a straight-shooter outta the box, but after changing the front sight[?] it's great. The 36 is as accurrate as one of my Kimbers.

Glocks are an all-around near best choice for a low-maintenance defensive handgun. The main criteria is that you should find it a comfortable easy shooter--there's not much you can do to a Glock gripwise. I think Glocks are butt ugly and plastic is a turnoff, but I absolutely love my Glock 30 and consider it on the same level as my more expensive .45s.

Shot Glock 17 stock pistol in Glock Matchs..Good to the last drop, no malfunctions, sweet shooter, fast....Accurate..won a new Glock 17 in the match at Fort Benning many years ago..No longer shoot in those matchs, can't see to well...it is a beautiful engineered and reliable weapon.. 0
