Ruger Mini-14 Mags/markings

I have a 30 round mag with the Ruger name and logo on the base plate and Ruger on the body. I also have a 20 with a plain base and Ruger on the body. Is the 20 a factory Ruger? Different mfg dates? Thanks, Bill

  I have about 50 original 20 rounders in the original boxes, brand new. These were purchased in a ten year period 1980-1990. They were purchased from Ruger, but are only stamped on the baseplate. No body markings whatsoever.I have never seen an outside vender that matches the quality of an original mag-Bob

  I also have several factory mini 14 magazines. The 30 rounders have the Ruger name stamped on the side of the magazine body and the Ruger logo on the baseplate. The 20 rounders only have the Ruger logo on the baseplate. There have been some oddball factory magazines that I have seen. I have a factory 20 round magazine with a plastic bottom that is held in place with 2 pins, needless to say this is a genuine ruger magazine. I have also seen the same magazine (plastic, no named bottom) with the Ruger name stamped on the side (very rare). These magazines were of the first generation and I think that is what you have. Factory Ruger magazines for the Mini 14 have 1 hole on both sides of the housing, inline with one another, this is another distinguishing characteristic of factory magazines. If you bought your magazine used, the original baseplate could have been damaged or lost during disassembly. This may be why you have a no name baseplate. Or you could have the plastic bottom baseplate magazine with one rare feature...the Ruger name on the magazine housing. Hoped this helps!!!!
