All my resource references indicate the Model 55 was a centerfire rifle, lever action. It was a take down model, made between 1924-1932. Only about 20,500 were made, serial numbers were on the bottom of the receiver.

There was a model 55 ".22 single shot automatic" made. I don't know any details on manufacturing, but I have seen them for sale in the Gun List pretty cheap (exc cond for @$150) BUT they are pretty seldom seen and those in that price range were from a couple years ago... I remember seeing 1907's for sale for $125 around then and they certainly aren't that cheap anymore. I'll look in my next list and see if there are any in there and what they are asking for them.

Hello, the Winchester 55 that you are talking about was made from 1958-1961,there were about 45,000 made in this period. There is no serial number due to the fact that it was made prior to the GCA of 1968. The values range from about 100-275 depending on the condition. You were correct about the walnut stock. This is the only time that a model number was re-used by Winchester. BTW these are very neat little rifles, have fun with it! :)

The last man mentioned the only time a model number was used twice, how about the model 59, both .22 rifle and semi-auto shotgun. There may be others, but can't think of any.

I've got one in near mint condition. They are a dandy little rifle. They are not antiques. I'd place the value of mine at $200.
