savage shotgun old
Dear Sirs:
I have inherited a Savage Arms 12-gauge shotgun, model 755 A, that may be at least 50 years old. Do you have any information on this gun, and its history? It belonged to my father-in-law. Thanks very much for your help.
Sincerely,
Dennis Roberson

According to the book, it was made between 1949 and 1958. If it's in like new condition, about $265, average condition about $140. Hopr this helps you. Regards Dave 0 -
Most probably made in Mohawk, NY. Now Stevens/Savage. A good utility gun, but not coveted by collectors.
Value is based on the utility of the gun... What it's worth to the person who needs to toss a load of shot.
One more point... Though 50 years old, the gun is considered modern in all respects.

your gun was savage's answer to browning's auto -5; and, like the auto 5, it had a reputation for cracked wood. it boasted being the first humpback gun to eliminate the annoying hump the a-5's had. there were some very collectible models out there. like browning double autos that came in different case colored alloy receivers, so did the savage. the engraving on your model was done with acid. no vent ribs were ever offered but savage chokes were, (polychoke look-a-likes.) they kicked. they shot. they were a common mans gun that won a lot of foul for them. i liked them.
