Colt New Pocket Model .32 D.A.
I took as collateral an old Colt and don't know whether I have a replated curiousity or something of interest to a serious collector. Wonder if anyone could make an educated guess as to the identification and potential value. Also, I live in the boonies and, if it's worth anything, wonder if anyone could suggest where the piece might be sold to reasonable advantage.

From Wilson's BOOK OF COLT FIREARMS, the shape is most similar to the illustration of the New Pocket Positive, but the S/N and other markings indicate it is a New Pocket Model. The nickeled piece shows little wear, yet some of the markings are indistinct or illegible.
Rifling in the 3 1/2 barrel is good, but about 1" down there is a crescent on the right side that I can't identify, or feel with a toothpick. I've been hesitant to scrub it, so don't know if it's a defect.
Markings from the top of the barrel down toward left are: (Small letters indicate indistinct, (?) illegible)

The six shot cylinder rotates clockwise. Grips are clear plastic over gold or yellow embossed foil. The foil is slightly ripped near the screw on the left, and has some discoloration, which maybe could be cleaned by someone willing to disassemble.
The frame behind the cylinder is clean on both sides, without the Rampant Colt implied in THE BOOK OF COLT FIREARMS.
Any ideas?

You asked for ideas. To me, you have described a piece that has had many of its markings buffed off and has been nickel plated. The grips description indicate further attempt to 'doll it up'. As for value, only as a shooter or a piece to carry in your pickup, no collector interest. Value $100 plus or minus, depending on how much someone wants it or how bad you want to dispose of it.
