Browning Auto 5 magnum value & questions
Trying to determine its worth... I'm sure one of you can help!
12Guage excellent-like new condition, Belgium 32" ribbed full choke smooth barrel, 3" magnum, believe it might be the french walnut wood. Remember something about the barrel being a 'special order' - father had to wait months to get it in. True?
Purchased new sometime between 63-67 best I can recall, but serial isn't like anything on the Browning website. First line is 5V, second line 74--- (all numbers)
Any thoughts on value, & deciphering serial greatly appreciated! May be selling it.

I work part time at a gun store, and just last week I bought one with a 30 inch barell for $350.00 It was a trade in on a 45 auto. Not to many people want them, they are heavy and belong in a Duck blind and will not shoot steel shot, I live in the North West maybe where you live they bring more money. 0 -
"5V" denotes it is a magnum model made in 1965. Value depends on condition...anywhere from $450-to-$1000 0 -
Very regional as far as value. A magnum is probably a good waterfowl gun and it's heavy, but around here it's a turkey gun and weight isn't considered much of a problem.
So... I'd burn the gun before I accepted $350.00, but I wouldn't expect the value to rise much over $800.00 even in as-new condition unless there's something you didn't share.

Jaguar, what you don't say is do you still have the original box and paper work that came with the gun? You say that it is a "ribbed" barrel, is it a Vent Rib or a Solid Rib, the Solid Rib would be rare, which may explain why your Dad had to wait so long. It would be a great goose gun with Bismuth or Tungsten/Matrix shot. But in reality only a Browning collector would give you top dollar. Without seeing the gun, and the above questions on the rib, box, and paper work, I can't give you an exact value, but Rembrandt is close anywhere from $500 to $1000.
