CETME or HK Type accuarcy ???
I was thinking about buying a 24 inch AR15.But I only have six bills and I already have a 223 .So I'm thinking Cetme and fix up my mini -14.I wanted a Ar10 but to get a accuarte one will cost 1500.00, so that's out.
What is the accuarcy of a good CETME with good ammo?Can a CETME stay under 1 MOA at 100yds? CAn I buy a longer barrel like a 24 inch?
I've searched alot of old post on the CETME but did'nt find any that delt with the accuarcy.
Is the FAL better for around the same price?

I have an unscoped Cetme which I shoot very low grade steel cased ammo (not Wolf) and at 100yds it's about'a 3-4 MOA grouping. I haven't really played around with the rear paddle sight, so I may even be looking through the wrong hole. I haven't shot an FAL so I can't compare.

So if I want a sub MOA gun for under 900 I'll have to go with a AR or dump a wad in my Mini?

And then, not sure you'll get sub moa with mini. You better go with a M1A, look for a used one, might get lucky. My FN FAL shoots about 2" groups with match loads, M1A will get sub-moa

Keep in mind the HK G3/CETME style roller-locker system is what they built the SG/1 and also the much acclaimed PSG-1 [:p] sniper rifle from.
One of the books (complete guide to classic rifles) states the G3/CETME/HK91 is among the most accurate of its type. It doesn't however give the results in practical numbers like MOA.0 -
Dumping the kind of money in a Mini14 it would take to make it accurate would be a total waste of money and energy. You would end up with a rifle that only might be accurate, and you could never get half your money back out of. Save it, and buy an AR.

I have made up my mind ! Well Kinda? I will buy either a CETME or H&K TYPE GUN.I don't know which but I Know the German steel is better than spanish or american steel. Also I want a dealer that will give at least 30 day exchange warranty as It will probably take 2 weeks to get it in order to shoot.Also I am interested in hand select I hear it runs about 50 bucks but wonder if the dealer realy checks the bore and head space or just pockets the cash and says this looks good.
Any info would be helpful thanks.
As for accuarcy I plan to sell a old sxs and use the cash I have left from the cetme and buy a Savage 110fp 308 .

I've never seen a shop that'd give 30 day exchange... Usually it is 3 days where I shop. That'd sure be nice. 0 -
I have an HK-91 with the PSG-1 trigger assembly and a Kahles 3-12x56 and the best I have ever been able to get shooting off the heavy bipod is a 1" group. It is a service rifle.
Also, I believe the PSG-1 has polygonal rifling vs the cut land and groove of the HK91 and there are some action differences.0 -
Regarding the Cetme, I looked into buying one at the begining of the summer, put money on one & wound up buying something eles. Century Arms Intl, who assembles these rifles is not know for it's quality control. Before you put money on one go to these sites & read their reviews:

The reason why I didn't buy that cetme I put money down was because it had a major problem from the get go. Cetury has this habit of pinning on the muzzle break. The problem is that the pin protrudes into the barrel. The one I almost bought had a pin sticking up into the barrel. Had I shot it, it could've turned into a handgrenade...
The other thing that Century likes to do is grind down there bolts so the guns look to be in spec, when actually they are far from it. This is another safety/reliability issue that they hide! There are repair parts available, new bolts etc, but those are costly & last I heard were starting to dry up. If you are going to buy one I'd memorize this page:

I will say I'm still tempted to try Century's HK knock off rifle, thinking that replacement parts are more widely available.
Let me add one more gun for you to look into. There's a small manufacturer in Ohio called Ohio Rapid Rire. They assemble a wide range of guns but there's actually work. Check out their STG58 FNFAL, their base gun is right in your price range. I have friends that own these rifles that are very happy with them. Check out:
