If you will read the instructions for the 1100/1187 series of shotguns, they suggest you pull the action bar handle to the rear, engage safety, insert cartridge in chamber, trip bolt release,(chrome plated button located on cartridge lifter in front of guard) then load magazine. From personal expierience, and several thousands of rounds,I know this works.

    SouthernGuard,

'Jody' has the answer to your problem. In other words, with the gun pointed in a safe direction, and with the safety engaged, open the action and load your first round directly into the chamber (instead of the magazine). Next, release the bolt and allow it to close with full force (without holding back on the handle). Then you can easily load the magazine.
