Dragunov Import Questions
Hello everyone,
I have a question regarding importing a Russian Dragunov SVD rifle into the US. I currently live in northern Va and have been presented an opportunity to purchase a Draganuv from a contact overseas.
My question is, I know that there are all kinds of restrictions on semi-autos, espicially importing a draganov. However, I am not sure of the exact rules and regulations governing the import of the Dragunov.
Does anyone know if it is possible to LEGALLY import a Dragunov into the US? What type of ownership paperwork would I have to have (ie...bill of sale, receipt, etc..) Also, what type of paperwork would I need from the ATF and Customs to bring the rifle into the USA.
Any information that you could provide me with would be very appreciated.

Importation of firearms requires that you submit a Form 6 Part I in triplicate to the Director, ATFE. I don't know if the Dragunov is on the US Munitions List (of prohibited items) published by the Dept of State, but I wouldn't be surprised.
You can give it a try, but I think that you will find the bureaucratic paperwork & financial expense too great to make this worthwhile.

Gotta agree with Mark on this one. You're basically asking to import something that isn't currently being imported. Seeing as how the Dragunov also came with a detachable magazine, bayo lug, and flash hider they would be even less likely to allow it. And with the intended sniping use of the rifle, even less likely. If you live in W.Va, forget about it[;)]

CDN has Chinese Dragunov's on for sale. Not a russian, I realize, but may save you significant $$.

I have a Dragunov Tiger for Sale, it has seen maybe 100 rounds through it and comes with two 10 round mags, lighted recticle scope/range finder, sling cleaning kit, scope case and soft original rifle case.

I brought back a Russian Drag from Panama in 1989. The paperwork process the military had in place at the time wasn't that bad. I wish I would have brought back more than one. Lots of fellas got in trouble for bringing back goodies from that trip and not going thru the proper channels. Due to those infractions my command prohibited further "bring backs" of military issue firearms. I haven't seen but one other Russian Dragunov in country and it came from Afghanistan during the 1980's also. Seems like someone would import some these days, the Russians would surely come off them for the Cash. 0 -
