Double-action semi-auto question

Are guns that are double action only (DAO) all capable of pulling the trigger repeatedly if a cartridge didn't fire (kinda like the double-action revolvers only it'd be striking the same cartridge).
Are DAO's the only one's that can do this? Or can double/singles do it too? I don't see how they would, but ya never know...
How 'bout guns like the HK "squeeze-cocker" can you release and squeeze it repeatly to keep striking the same cartridge?

I've never found a need for this really, if it happened to me in a panic situation then I'd just eject it and go on. I've never had a centerfire cartridge that didn't fire on the first strike of the primer.
I overheard a gun salesman talking about this the other day and he was acting like it was an absolute essential to have. I thought it was a novel idea but not really needed. I sure don't like DAO triggers.

  bambihunter: depends on the make , some do some don't , I believe on a Ruger DOA you can just keep pulling the trigger ,
  now on my Para ordnance LDA you have to pull the slide back about 3/8" to reset the trigger,
  on my Trurus PT-22 (DAO) you can just keep pulling the trigger,
  my Bersa model 83 , 380 is double / single and you can just keep pulling on it also

  Some striker fired DAO can't do that. It greatly depends on the gun. There are several types of DAO's. As far as Traditonal Double Actions go, most should be able to do it considering that when you dry fire a traditional the hammer is going back and forth each time, striking the firing pin.

  A DAO, like a revolver, doesn't need a safety because it's always safe and ready to go if a round is in the chamber. There is no full cocked position. If you have a primer fail to go off the first time (and I've had plenty) you can give the trigger another pull or two without having to work the slide.
  DAO is thought by many to be better for most police work because it takes a more deliberate effort to fire than an auto on SA.

  I'm very possibly wrong but I don't believe all DAO's will second strike by pulling the trigger again. I think this is especially so with striker type actions.
  What few primers I've had fail, fail and fail again. I've never had a second or third srike discharge a cartridge. That is NOT to say that it won't work, but since you're already caught with your pants down, do you want to trust the next pull of the trigger to a round that didn't go off the first time?

  Thanks guys... [:)] So it isn't cut and dried issue with DAO's huh? I've never owned any that would do that, but I typically avoid DAO's because I can't seem to shoot near as accurately as a DA/SA or just a SA.
  The only gun that I can recall that had problems with the primers not firing were typically because of a firing pin problem (weak spring, dirt in it, or a worn out pin). However, I had a muzzleloader that I could drop the hammer several times in a row and it would eventually fire, it was just as described above - a new spring and it was fixed.

  Kel-Tec P11 - DAO that does not have repeat strike capability
  
  P7M8 - yes, just release and squeeze and it will reset the striker. Also vastly superior to DAO in that it has a light, crisp, single action pull without sacrificing safety, but you must deliberately squeeze the grip
  
  Got a new gun for my ex-wife.....pretty good trade, huh?
