help!should i trade???????
have a smith and wesson nickel airweight 38 sp--is probably a 76 model--is in excellent shape--freind wants to trade an ak-47 romanian rifle with a 40 shot clip--have fired the ak--works flawlessly--funny to see his face after a full mag--but anyway-he redone the wood on the ak and i have talked him into an older style drum clip--not the kind you wind, the other one--would this be a good trade?? the smith was owned by a freind of the family and has a custom bobbed hammer--what are the aks worth now---i dont want to get skinned!!!!!!thank[?][?]s sm

The the true value of anything is determined by what someone will pay and what someone will accept in an open market without duress. As you know markets vary from place to place.

Its about an Even Steven Trade...Maybe a bit to the Good on Your End..the Romanian AK's are listed at $350.00 to $500.00 Plus $$$$$ for extra Goodies....kinda depends where You are and the Laws in your area...and the demand..If You think its a Good Deal, then by all means make the Trade....You're the one that has to live with the decission..

If it were me i'd talk him into selling the ak instead of the trade then you don't have to worry about getting ripped and you own more guns which is always a good deal. 0 -
Trading away a S&W for anything other than another S&W is sacrelige [sp?] in my book. I vote with Timinpa, keep the Smith and buy the AK.

I've bought and sold and traded enough guns and other stuff not to care much anymore. There's no Uhaul trailer hitched to a hearse you know. If you want the AK more than the Smith, you can't go too far wrong. Personally a nice S&W is probably more useful and desireable, but only you can make that choice.

If you can justify buying the AK and holding on to the Smith.
Does the friend of the family, have any interest in the Smith?
Just seems like trading off the Smith for an AK is like trading
the Cadillac for the Kia.
Even if they book the same, it's something about trading a "Gun" for

keep the s&w. it will go up in value. the rifle wont. and if it does, never as much as a s&w airweight will be in the same future time frame.

I own one of the same S&W 38's, would not trade it for an AK! The S&W carries nicely concealed and is light. On the other hand if you want or need the AK for your collection, you would most likely make out on the deal. I paid $125 for my S&W and it was never shot. The ultimate decision is yours, trust your instincts. 0 -
Depends on what you are looking for. If you want an AK, you can't beat the even trade your friend will give you. A dealer probably won't give you an even trade on the Smith. No paperwork is also a nice benefit, especially on an AK. Unless you can prove that your Smith was nickled at the factory, the gun is not worth as much as it would be if it were blue. If you have some emotional attachment to the Smith, I would keep it.
One other point, if it's a good enough friend, you could always trade back later. Maybe ask him to let you make him an offer on the Smith before he sells it.
I have traded my Glock 21 to a friend for a Smith & Wesson 686+ a couple of years ago and then later traded back after 6 monthes or so.
