accuracy of .270 v. 30-06
I am trying to decided between these two calibers for deer hunting, I wonder if either one is more accurate than the other in similiar sized buttlets?

I prefer the .30-06 however either cartridge is as good as the other.

Boils down to this - Do you want a Chevy or a Ford?
Nothing wrong with either caliber for deer hunting, although the 30-06 is somewhat more flexible due to better selection of bullets.
The .280 Rem is as good as either the .270 Win or the 30-06 for deer hunting.

The caliber itself is not what determines its accuracy potential. All are "capable" of 1 hole groups. The trick is having a quality, rifle, ammo that it likes(very seldom will 2 rifles in the same caliber made by the same manufacturer shoot a given bullet exactly the same, you will have to experiment to find ammo that your rifle likes)and a shooter capable enough to make the whole pacage perform to its utmost potential. I guess of the three you mention I would pick the 06 simply because of the bullet selection avaliable. And you can find them just about anywhere. Myself, personally would opt for a short action just because they are more accurate than long actions. The short actions are more rigid than long actions and therefore inherrently more accurate. That is why more people shoot .308's in competition. And the short actions will kill deer just as dead with alot less punishment to the shoulder. I would reccomend the 7mm-08 above all but the 300wsm. And that is because I just got my wsm. Shot the 7-08 for years but just wanted(not needed) more horse power.
