Poly Tech AK 47

Does anyone know anything about the Poly Tech AK 47? Are they any good? Any downfalls? Where would they rate in regards to the other variants? What would a used one cost?

    Are there any factory folding stocks made available by Poly Tech? What about factory magazines? Will all accessories produced by Poly Technologies have the Poly Tech name?[?][?][?][?] quote:Liberals Suck!!!!!

    I own 2 Polytech AK-47 rifles,both are pre-ban.They've functioned flawlessly every time I have a session with them. Polytechs are basically the best China has to offer from all their Kalashnikov variants. Depending on what model, the value will differ. The highest priced model I have seen is their "LEGEND" model which was produced exactly like the original "AK-47" with milled receiver. I've seen these babies go for $1,200.00 to $1,895.00. Original retail was probably $500.00 to $600.00. They also produced AKS & AKM models with bakelite sidefolding stock or metal underfolder stock in .223 or 7.62x39 cal. All in all Polytechs for me make great collector's items,investments,shooters,& lifesavers. If you have the dough$$ it is worth it!!!

    Thanks for the information!! I recently picked up a Poly Tech AK 47 with the stamped receiver for $325. I knew it was a good deal!!! What do you think? What is the difference between the AKS and AKM models, and how do I know which one I have? How do the stamped receivers hold up? What would you recommend in regards to accessories? Thanks again!!!!

    Well evermore, congratulations!! You've got yourself one sweet deal & one mean firearm to enjoy at the range!! The diffrence between the AKM & AKS is this: The AKM has a cyclic rate reducer(A full-auto rifle)The civillian model, which most of us get to own is called the AKS. The AKM/AKS models differ from the AK by the lightened stamped steel receiver.The way to tell what model you have would be to look on the left side of the receiver closest to the forearm and you'll see either AKS-762 or AK-47/S(I know there are many other variations)
    Stamped receivers hold up just as fine as the milled ones do. The only reason why you see more stamped receivers around is because it takes less of everything to produce more. When it matters is whether or not the weapon is select fire or not. If it is full auto then the milled receivers last a little longer.There is a horde of accessories for Kalashnikovs, all I'd personally put on it is some black furniture,3-point sling,& a Fobus dual magazine clamp.SWEET!!!

    Just a thought, it might be a MAK90. $325 is about the going price on the MAK90. Does it have a bayonet lug? Is the barrel threaded? If the barrel is threaded, is there any signs of weld on the bottom of the barrel, close to the threads? Some of the early MAK90s were marked like an AKS, save an identifying dash number. Some of the very early MAK90s were not marked MAK90, and had the barrel thread protector spot welded on, and they were later removed by the owner with some judicious use of a file. I think the best give-a-way would be the existance of a bayonet lug, except even the preban heavy 20" barrel versions didn't have one. You might want to check and see if the bayonet lug is in tact. If it doesn't have one, chances are it's a MAK90. There are also some knowledgable folk at http://www.gunsnet.net/forums/index.php?s=

    Well I made a mistake. It is a MAK 90. I know it was an AK because of the fact that the AK-47 markings were filed off and in it's place is the acronym MAK 90. Also, the name of the importer (armory) in which the rifle was first sent is also marked on the receiver. The guy I bought it from told me that this is a standard procedure for all AK's coming in from China, because the rifle is an AK until it reaches the U.S., then it is modified to the MAK-90. The rifle has a pistol grip stock, not the thumb hole sporter stock and does not have a threaded muzzle or bayonet lug. It is pretty cool nonetheless, and I think I got a good deal. Afterall I got the Poly Tech version (which I'm told is at the top of the line for the AK variants), two 40 round magazines, a 5 round magazine and about 50 rounds of 7.62x39 for $325, I think I did pretty good. Don't you? As far as the AKS or AKM markings, they do not exist. Maybe they did at one time and were filed off along with the AK-47 markings. I heard that the receivers may weaken. Is this true? Anything I can do to make sure my rifle last a long time? Thanks for all the help guys!!!!!

    It still sounds like a nice deal. The pistol grip is leagal as long as enough US parts were added to qualify it as a US made rifle.
