Scope Mounts

hi

i am putting a scope on a new rifle.a friend said to use high mounts.now i always mount my scopes as close to the barrel as i can get.always thought that would be more acurate.Listening to my friend i was curious if it matters?Thinking about triing it but it does not seem like it would be beneficial to me.woundering what othere people think. thanks for the time.

  will the rings on a muzzelloader handel the recoil of a 7 mm rem mag
  the reason I ask is I have a muzzelloader that the rings will work perfect on my 7 mm

  Could you possibly be anymore vague? The last time I bought a 700 it did not come with bases or rings. Why don't you try to describe them.

  Bought it about a year and a half ago. It came with a 2 piece base set and (2) 1 inch rings. There is no brand labeled on them so i'm assuming they are factory generic.

  Was the gun new or used? Are you sure it is a 700?

  It was purchased brand new. It is a Remington 700 ADL. I guess what it all leads to, is it better for me to have a 1 piece or 2 piece base. I want to be able to shoot out at 500 yards or so.

  One piece bases are supposed to be more rigid, but I have never had problems with two piece bases and I don't like the way some one piece bases restrict the receiver access. I use Talley rings and bases, and not the generic Weaver type. On the other hand, if they are working well for you, why change them?

  Remington does not mfg rings and bases. All of my scoped rifles have one piece steel dovetail bases.They are absolutely solid and unmoveable.[I love Leopold]I just don't like most alloy components.The loss of space and slowdown in loading the mag is of no concern to me since these are not combat weapons.Fast reloading is not an issue. He Dog is of course correct. If they work, why switch?Bob
