US Remington 03-A3 .244 Imp... Need Info

I just purchased this rifle. It has a very heavy barrell and what appears to be a bench rest stock. It is in very good condition. Any information about price,origin or past uses would be greatley appreciated.

  You have a US military surplus bolt action rifle (1903 Springfield, modified by Remington during the beginning of WWII and called the "1903-A3") that has been rebarreled and chambered for the .244 Remington cartridge. The original rifle was made during wartime conditions, issued to US and British troops, then declared surplus in the '50's by the government. They were available through the Dept. of Civilian Marksmanship (DCM) to NRA members belonging to sanctioned clubs initially, and sold as a complete rifle for as little as $14.50, shipping included. Since then, the rifles have been sold, traded and swapped extensively and originals (yours has been modified)are selling for $350 - $800, depending on model and condition. As to who modified your particular rifle is anyone's guess. It's value as a shooter depends again, on condition and what the buyer is willing to pay. $250 - $300 is a fair price for a modified '03A3 in excellent condition and workmanlike conversion.
