Anyone know where I may obtain takedown instructions on this fine old specimen, SA FN-49.

  clear weapon, leave it cocked, put safety on, remove magazine, allow bolt to close gently.
  
  at the rear of the recv is the takedown latch. rotate it to the right 180 degrees. push the recv cover forward until it comes to the cutouts and then lift it up and then back. carefully, as you are controlling the recoil spring. retract the bolt carrier until it clears the cutouts and lift it out. the gas piston comes out the front like a FAL - ie, push in the lock and turn the gas lock 90 degrees and out the front. tilt the rifle down at the muzzle and gas piston should come out.
  
  The takedown latch is probably all you needed help with.
