What ammo for 300 wsm?
Just bought a 300 wsm(winchester Model 70 SS) and wanted some opinions on what ammo seems to shoot best. I'll be starting out with factory ammo and was wondering if anyone had shot both the 150grain and 180grain bullets, and what differences they found. As in accuracy and bullet drop, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm learning everything i can on this bullet. I feel it is the best all around hunting bullet available. I priced the factory ammo, but the cheapest is like a dollar per round. Winchester is the only company that can make ammo for it for like 2 years, or so I've heard. Anyways I reload. I use IMR 4350 and a 150 grain Nosler ballistic tip bullet. The bullets are like $11 per 50. I get like 3200 fps with mine, but the nice thing is is that it is cheap and very accurate. The thing with this bullet is that the 180 would probably kich like a mother $#@ but then again I'm using a featherweight so a heavier gun would make a little difference. All in all I think with 3200 fps, the 150 gr bullet is perfect. Email me if you got any more question's. Good Luck!

The Winchester Supreme 150 ballistic tips are just ok in my Mdl 70 SS 300 WSM. I get about 1 1/2" at 100 yards. The standard Winchester power points are better at just less than an inch. Federal has just come out with a batch of offerings for the 300 WSM. I haven't had a chance to try them. Very expensive at $34.00 retatil, however.

I would shoot the 180 power point as far as factory loads go. Or maybe the 180bst. The first one I had was a browning(have since gotten rid of the gun and sought professional psychiatric help for even wanting that piece of junk) and it shot the power points around .7moa. The 150's produced something more like a pattern than a group. Now have a savage with the new accutrigger and it shoots custom loaded 168xlc's in the low .4's. If money is an issue shoot the power points or the 180bst. If it isnt check out Conley Precision Cartrige's website. They are where I am getting my xlc's from till I get my reloading room completed.
