FN FAL - proper lubrication
Hi, I have an Fal clone built on an Imbel receiver. Weapon has functioned perfectly. However, the last time I took it out, I had tons of trouble with it. Many spent cases failed to eject properly. On several occasions, the bolt closed on spent cases, jamming them into the chamber. With considerable effort, I had to retract the bolt to extract them. I'm thinking the action was not lubed properly after the last time I cleaned it. Where are the places I need to lubricate? Which type of oil do you suggest?

Sounds like you just need to adjust the gas port to me.
I use MPro7 Ultra-lube, I just put it on a q-tip and swab it on the friction points.0 -
Concur that the problem is in the gas system. Adjustment or other work needs to be done. Weapon will work with little or no lube, but breached gas system will render inop.

Contrary to what one might think the Gas piston should be DRY... it will work with oil on it for one session, but will stick and make a great mess when you pick up the rifle again. Much like the mag tube on an 1100 remington. I learned this the hard way on my first FAL build. Bolt and carrier should be lightly oiled then wipe off the excess. Lube the hammer trigger and sear as necessary along with other parts to prevent rust.

If you changed ammo you might have to readj the gas system.

I was fiddling around with the gas system. It was on three when I was having trouble. I moved it to two, same trouble, not as frequent. Finally, I moved it to one. I had two types of blasting ammo, South African seemed to work fine, and Spanish which gave me the most trouble. I had fired both through this gun and the Spanish through another FAL I own and had no trouble at all. Now that you bring it up it makes sense, but I didn't realize the gas system should be readjusted when you switch ammo.
