Info Needed: Concerning Old Meriden Top Break
I just aquired an old Meriden top break revolver. Apparently this little revolver is not of any real value, but since I aquired it I am looking for some additional info on this item and its manufacturer if possible. It is marked on the top of the barrel "MERIDEN FIRE ARMS CO. MERIDEN, CONN. U.S.A." (5 shot - 32 cal. - I think!).
I found some info in my Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms, but the information is very limited. Basically all my edition of this book says is that the company was in business about 15 years (1900-1915).
Any additional info on this old pistol and/or Meredin Fire Arms, Co. (NOT to be confused with Meridian Manufacturing Co.) would be greatly appreciated.

"Meriden Firearms Co., Meriden, Connecticut
Pocket Pistol
A .32 or .38 caliber double-action revolver manufactured in a variety of barrel lengths and with either and exposed or enclosed hammer. Nickel-plated with rubber grips. The barrel marked "Meriden Firearms co. Meriden, Conn. USA". Manufactured between 1895 and 1915.
V.G. - $400
Good - $150
Fair - $75"
Consensus seems to be that Meriden Firearms Co. was owned by Sears, Roebuck & Co. and sold their guns exclusively thru Sears. Whether the company was started by Sears, or started as an independent and was later bought by Sears, isn't really known.0 -
For Your information; MERIDEN FIREARMS CO., Meriden, Conn. Makers of a 5-shot hammerless, Auto-ejecting revolvers (Fryburg type) and of Miller Breech-block system for ateration of muzzle-loading arms.. Meriden also manufactured a Single shot .22 Rifle known as the Model 10...and the Slide Action .22 Rifle known as the Model 15...and several Models of Shotguns..Pistols, Rifles and Shotguns were sold thru Hardware Stores, Mail Order Houses and Sporting franchises like Sears, Roebuck and Company, Montgomery Wards, etc.
Valuewise The Revolver in Good Condition is $125.00
The Single Shot Rifle in Good Condition is $75.00
The Slide Action Rifle in Good Condition is $225.00
Shotguns were of the Average Low End Grade, and sold new for approx. $10.00 up to $25.00....and on todays market are just Wall Hangers..and bring minimal prices as such...........A Shotgun in very Good Condition is only worth $150.00.......
