guns shops in Central New York

I am going on a camping trip to central NY, Finger Lakes/Watkins Glen area and wondering if any of you know of any good gun shops in this area to make my vacation complete...

  I can definitely recommend Whitetail Country Sportsworld, 1102 W. State St., Olean, NY. phone 716-373-2144. I bought a real nice Savage 99F, 308 Win., from them a couple of years ago when I was passing through. This might be a little far west for you.

  Here's one in Elmira that leans towards pre-64 collectibles. I have not been there, but see their name alot in collector's circles and publications. It's only a short distance from Watkin's Glen.

  Ithaca Gun Co. They also have a tiny museum.
  Remington Arms co. Good museum.
  Glen Curtis Museum. Airplanes and old motorcycles

  Ackleys in Westfield, Pa is very nice! It's right on the PA. NY. border.
  I work in Olean, Whitetail Country is nice but a little pricy!

  If you come to Elmira, and if you decide to visit Elmira Arms... Then know that the Hartman boys have a reputation for selling nothing but rare and valuable items... But buying little other than common pieces - Many with flaws that lower collector interest. At least that's pretty much what one can expect to hear should you attempt to sell an item to them. (I'm always amazed at the apparent transformation that takes place as an an item crosses the counter into their hands. But then, what do I know? Fortune is fickle.)
  
  I don't condemn them for the practice as it's in their best interest to pay as little for an item as possible. Neither will I tell you that the items they offer aren't of quality.
  
  All I'm saying is that the "Buy low. Sell high." rule appears to be their mantra. Then again, their doors remain open and the lights are on. That's better than some.
  
  Plan on a visit to the National Warplane Museum at the Chemung Co. Airport. Also the Corning Glass Museum and the Rockwell Museum in Corning.
  
  Nice area. You'll enjoy the trip.

  The Watervliet Arsenal, near Troy, NY, has a museum. This is definitely not a gun shop, but a very interting place. They make very large guns there. The Remington factory at Ilion, NY has tours at 10 am and 1 pm Monday through Friday that are free. Upper New York is beautiful this time of the year.

  Andys gun shop in Waterloo, NY. It is on Route 414 just north of Waterloo before the thruway and Route 318. It is a small gun shop with a decent selection and the prices are flexible. I have been buying from him for years and he always throws in a box of shells for what ever I am buying. Customer satisfaction at a good price.
