How high should I go with my scope rings

I'M IN NEED OF SOME ADVICE.DOES ANYONE KNOW JUST HOW LARGE THE OBJECTIVE IS ON REDFIELD ILLUMINATER [30MM TUBE].BELIEVE IT IS A 56MM,
AND WITH B.C. COVERS I'M NOT SURE HIGH RINGS WILL CLEAR.IF THERE'S
ANYONE WHO HAS MOUNTED ONE ON A 77 RUGER in 7mm Rem mag LET ME KNOW PLEASE, YOURHELP WILL BE APPRECIATED.

  Ideally,, no higher than is needed to allow unrestricted functioning of the action. The higher a scope is mounted the further it is from the center of the bore. This will make zeroing more diffacult and increase the likelyhood of loss of zero if the mounts are bumped. It also increases the chances of broken mount screws from recoil shear.

  Keep in mind that a 30mm scope will, by its design, actually sit higher and even with the 56mm objective it should sit lower than a 50mm objective on 1" main tube.
  python is right, put it as low as it would go. I'd take the gun to the gun shop and do a trial fit right there. It might cost a small amount (for the trial fit and bore-sighting) but then you'll know you got the lowest acceptable mounts that will work.

  I used the extra high rings from Warne to fit my 30mm tube, 56mm scope,..and there is just enough clearance between the HEAVY barrel and the objective lense. One thing to consider,..my objective is smaller than an AO lense,..as my focus is on the side.
  
  Ultra high is too high,...but high may just make it if your barrel is no more than a varmint contour. (#5-#6)

  The accepted wisdom is to mount as low as possible. On the other hand, the higher you mount it (within reason) the greater your "point-blank ranmge tolerance.
  If you expect to be able to take targets at various ranges, say from 50 to 500 yds, a HIGH scope setting will give you an advantage; On the other hand, you will need a higher comb.

  JUST SET THE ILLUMINATOR INTO A SET OF X-TRA HI LEUPOLD
  30 MM FOR 77 RUGER AND I CAN SEE THE LITE.JUST CLEARED WITH COVERS
  ON IT BUT I DO HAVE SOME LITE BETWEEN SCOPE AND BARREL.ALSO HAVE GOOD EYE RELIEF.
