Use scope prices
Is there a % off new prices that would be a reasonable factor to price a scope thats on a gun...I have different brands..leupolds , burris , sightron , and redfields. some fixed powers but most are 3 x 9 ...4 x 12 etc..

It is a somewhat variable %. In high end scopes (meaning Leupold Vari X III, Burris signature and European scopes like Swarovski or Schmidt and Bender) a used scope in very high condition will bring up to 80% of discount retail. Nikon, Pentax, and the less pricey models of Leupold and Burris, like the Vari-X II and Fullfield will bring 5-10% less. Bushnell, Weaver, Pentax, and so lose another 5-10%. With Simmons and Tasco, most shooters consider them throw aways, and generally will try hard to price the rifle without the scope or not offer over $10-$25. Most dealers say if they sell the rifle without the scope, then they cannot get their cost out of the scope alone. That may be true, but don't tell me that Tasco adds to the price of the rifle, because I will replace it.

Good optics always have a good resell value. Most times for a few bucks more you can buy brand new. However, if that few bucks puts you over your budget used is a good way to go to get a good scope and not a cheap new one. I recently sold a used Leupold variX-III 2.5-8X36 for 325 and you can buy a new one for 440 or maybe a couple bucks less. So I would say that if you are buying used on a good scope, you should look to save about 25% give or take a little more or less depending on condition. 0
