Scope mounts for a Ruger 10/22

I have an old Ruger 10/22 and, thanks to failing eyesight, need to put a scope on it. What is the best mount system for scoping a 10/22? (I have a 1" diameter scope I intend to install on it.) How much do the mounts cost, and where could I order them?

I notice there are a series of holes with filler screws in the top of the receiver for attaching a mount.

Walmart has some high "see thru" mounts (I think they are Weavers), but I don't want the scope mounted that high.

    You need to buy a base to mount in the existing holes on top of the receiver, and some rings. Total cost should be around $25.00. Do not use see thru mounts--the scope is set too high for comfortable use.

    I have used several types of raised scope mounts and have had no trouble with them. I currently have raised Weavers and a fixed 4 power scope. I use the open sights for 0-50 yard stuff and typically use the scope for beyond that. It does take a little practice to have to adjust for the scope being off the bore by over an inch, but it is no problem.
    Rafter, if you got that rifle new then it should have came with a Weaver style rail. If not, then PJ probably has the right price listed. I'd check first with Bass Pro or Cabelas if there isn't a store that has them locally.

    weaver type base for your 1022 comes for 1" for standard rings or the smaller 22, 7/8" base buy the one for the 1" rings, usually runs around 8 bucks for the base and any Weaver or Tasco rings will work just fine , if you can't find them in your area let me know , local shop carries them all the time and I would be willing to pick up a set and mail them out for you

    Thanks to all for the suggestions. I contacted Ruger a little while ago and they are sending a base to me. Wasn't fortunate enough to get it free, but it was low cost enough I don't mind. Now, it's off to Wallyworld to get the rings...then, LOOK OUT, TURTLES.

    The factory base will require a 3/8 inch mounting space unless Ruger has recently upgraded their factory base. If still an alloy you may experiece "scope creep" during firing. It is all but impossible to get the rings tight enough to hold the scope in place. If a problem look into the Weaver TO-9 base. It will work with the 3/8 or standard Weaver style ring.

    RUGER INCLUDES A BASE WITH THERE 10/22 THAT FITS [GROOVED TOP] AND TIP-OFF RINGS WILL FIT, IT IS NARROWER THAN THE TO-9 WEAVER BASE. THE WEAVER BASE BEING WIDER IS MUCH BETTER THAN TIP-OFFS ( FOR GROOVED RECIEVERS )A WIDER FOUNDATION IS BEST.AS FAR AS SEE-THRUS WHICH ALLOW YOU TO SEE OPEN SIGHTS THEY WILL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO TROUBLE, AND YOUR PROBLEM IS YOU CAN'T SEE THE SIGHTS WELL ANYMORE SO WHY WOULD YOU WANT SOMETHING YOU CAN'T USE WELL.PLUS THE SCOPE IS TO HIGH FOR COMFORTABLE VIEW. IF YOUR MOUNTING A INEXSPENSIVE SCOPE SIMMONS - WEAVER STYLE RINGS- WILL DO,IF YOU HAVE A HIGHER QUALITY SCOPE CHECK INTO STEEL RINGS I BELIEVE WEAVER HAS NEW ALL STEEL,AND REDFIELD, OR MILLETTE,OFFERS STEEL RINGS AS WELL.GOOD LUCK & HOPE WE DIDN'T TOTALLY CONFUSE YOU.
