Rem Mod 14 Serial #'s

I always get confused when trying to decipher remingtons serial numbers. I have a pair of Model 14's I am trying to determine the age of...The 30 Rem serial # is a "C" over 2xxx. The 32 Rem is a "C" over 20xxx. The only reference I have is the Blue Book which indicates a "C" equates to 4. Since this model was only made from 1912 to 1935, does this mean they are 1914, 1924, or 1934 vintage? Did they make less than 2500 of these between 1912 and 1914? Is the 20xxx a 1924 or 1934 vintage?

Or am I way off base? Dang, I hate Remingtons serial # system and I can't seem to find a website to explain it to me.

  griz, I believe you are on the wrong track in dating the model 14.
  The Remington date code is in the form of two or three letters, usually, if not always, on the barrel near the receiver. The first letter indicates the month and the second letter or letters indicates year. The year code will be only one letter for each year starting in 1921 and ending in 1942. Thereafter the year was indicated by two letters.
  
  The C above the serial number might indicate "carbine" as these rifles were available in a carbine version with 18 1/2 inch bbl.
  
  If you have a Blue Book handy, look at the serial number section and see if it doesn't confirm what I have said. If you don't have the Blue Book, post the date codes here and I will look them up and provide you the month and year of manufacture.

  Herschel...there are no year code letters stamped on barrel, left side at frame per Blue Book. The only stamp there is caliber e.g 30 Rem, 32 Rem. The serial number on both is stamped on the lower side of the receiver near barrel and looks like this:
  C
  2xxx
  Except the "C" is centered above the number which I can't seem to do.
  C
  20xxx
  
  Neither gun is a carbine. They both have 22 inch barrels. I have Remington shotguns (870 & 1100) that I can decipher the date codes on, but not these older rifles.

  Griz, My Blue Book says the coding system started in 1921. Your two rifles could be older than that. I can think of no other explanation.
