The revolver was produced in 1899 according to my references.
Ammo is available but yee gods it's expensive. Firing a Colt of this vintage is considered heresy in some circles. In any event, the gun should be checked over by a gunsmith that specializes in vintage Colts before firing it is even a passing thought. Condition being EVERYTHING on vintage Colts, Your's will suffer considerably from being re-plated. The only out will be if it was done by Colt. This will require a complete Historical letter from Colt that specifially states the revolver was restored/ re-plated by them and the date work was performed. Colt collectors are a very dicerning lot. Non-original grips and re-plating will not be an appealing combination for them. Without seeing the gun in question, an opinion on it's value would be iffy at best. Sorry I can't be more positive. But, Colts of this vintage are highly sought after, Forgeries abundant, and condition means everything to the collector.

You can buy brass from Midway and hollow base bullets on the net. I bought a used dieset and Lyman HB mould by advertising on both this website and on Auxtxonaxms.com.
Colt used the same barrel for both .41LC and .38-40 so if you can find a 38-40 cylinder, shooting can be more reasonable.
Many renickeled Colts were completely disassembled before being polished, resulting in rounded edges at the joints between the frame and the loading gate,the backstrap and triggerguard. Properly done the frames should be polished with triggerguard, backstrap and loading gate attached. I assume that Colt renickeled jobs were done right and are not caved in at the joints.0 -

HAD SMOKELESS REPLACED B.P. BY THEN.DID THEY PRODUCE ANY RIFLES

1898 is considered the date which convertion to smokeless powder was complete. However, don't bet the farm on it. You will have to examine the revolvers proof marks. They are different for Black and smokeless powders. Colt always trying to be on the cutting edge of production methods, quickly adopted smokeless powder for their line of firearms. Check the proofs to be sure.

While your Colt has the transverse cylinder pin catch known as the smokeless style frame, that came out in 1892, Colt only started to guarantee the SAA for smokeless in 1900 beginning with s/n 192000. Colt's shipping records for s/ns 175000 and 180000 specifically stated they were not guaranteed for smokeless.
Notwithstanding all of this, the 41 Long Colt is a flea powered cartridge considering the large SAA frame. No standard smokeless 41LC load is likely to damage it. The cartridge was introduced earlier in the much smaller 1877 DA Colt Lightning, renamed the 41 Thunderer which has paper thin cylinder walls.
I wouldnt worry about the safety of shooting it0
