Is it possible to swop out a 40 S&W barrel for a 357 Sig in the Springfield XD? If so were can I find on to fit my gun[?][:)]

I just bought one of these pistols and was curious as to what I need to lube the slide rails with. I've never owned a polymer framed pistol, and would appreciate any info. 0 -
I had an XD40, but I worked hi-cap Beretta mags for both. Depending on what mag you get, you can get as much as 13 rounds of 40cal, but you can get the full 17 with the 9mm. If you want to do the work yourself (no milling machine needed, simply a dremel tool and patience), you can email me and I'll send you instructions.

i wouldnt mess with altering the pistol. you may damage the firing pin but you will most certainly damage the extractor if the modification is done improperly. it seems like your looking for a high capacity gun. chieck out a used glock 17.[:p] 0 -
With all due respect, I was talking about altering the MAGAZINES, not the pistol. If you really prefer the XD, it's a good way to get high capacity.

Familyguy, I went to Beretta's website and it looked like they didn't make .40's. Are you saying you altered 9mm Beretta mags to fit in the Springfield? If this is the case why were u only able to get 13 rounds instead of 15? 0 -
I have an XD40. I prefer my glock, but the XD40 is a fine duty capable handgun.
Yes it will accept pretty much any magazine that has the S&W 59 type contour to it. You just have to drill a little hole in the front as a mag catch, and its perfectly legal, because it will still function in the original gun it was manufactured for. It will not however accept glock magazines. They are to wide.
You don't really have to buy and modify any magazines though. If you have an XD9, you can use XD40 magazines as high caps. I forgot exactly how many one will hold, but it will function perfect.0 -
lee, I'm assuming you meant to say if I have a XD 40 I can use XD 9 high cap mags in it? I know that Springfield sells XD 9 mags that hold 15 rounds for LE. If this is correct then I believe I've found the solution to my problem. 0 -

Actually, the way lee said it was right on. The 9mm and 40 cal mags are the same physical dimensions, but the one for the 40 has a spring and follower to accomodate 10 rounds of 40 cal ( a short 10mm ) and more shallow grooves in the sides of the mag. So you can actually fit more than 10 rounds of 9mm in the 40 cal mag, and they work fine and are legal.

Yes, I was referring to using Beretta hi-cap 9mm, either for a hi-cap 9mm XD mag or hi-cap 40cal XD mag.

If you use the Beretta 9 for and XD40, you will probably need to (carefully) alter the lips so the rounds feed right, and the notch in the corner where the follower catches the slide lock. AND as lee noted, the hole in the front.

Thanks for all the input guys. I've shot the Glock before and didn't like it so I'm pretty set on the XD.
lee, you said just about any S&W 59 type mag should load in to the XD. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with what that is. Can you name off some companies that manufacture these and that are fairly easy to find? I would think if that's the case it would be easy to get 15 round .40 mags that would load in to the XD 40 without any alteration being necessary.0 -
